  63. 1.5    QUALITY ASSURANCE

  65.     A.    Manufacturer Qualifications:  Minimum five (5) years documented experience producing products specified in this section.

  67.     B.    Installer Qualifications:  Minimum three (3) years documented experience installing air-handling sheet metal ducts.

  69.     C.    Pre-installation Meetings:
  70.         1.    Convene at job site seven (7) calendar days prior to scheduled beginning of construction activities of this section to review requirements of this section.
  71.         2.    Require attendance by representatives of the following:
  72.             a.    Installer of this section.
  73.             b.    Other entities directly affecting, or affected by, construction activities of this section.
  74.         3.    Notify Architect four (4) calendar days in advance of scheduled meeting date.

  78.     A.    Ensure that openings in horizontal slabs are correctly located, aligned and sized for mail chutes.

  80.     B.    Ensure that fire protection piping is correctly located and sized for connection to sprinkler heads mounted in mail chutes.

  82.     C.    Sequence construction activities of this section to prevent cutting of adjacent materials, including drywall system.

  101.     A.    Mail and Package Chute:
  102.         1.    Acceptable Product:  Valiant Products, Inc., Model P-38.
  103.         2.    Components:
  104.             a.    Chute:  Fabricated of aluminum-coated steel sheet conforming to ASTM A 463; minimum 14 gage sheet thickness; 18 inches by 18 inches cross-section by height required for indicated number of floors and floor-to-floor dimensions, with number and locations of openings for indicated number of floors and floor-to-floor dimensions.
  105.             b.    Intake Units:  Doors and frames fabricated of stainless steel sheet conforming to ASTM A 666, minimum 22 gage sheet thickness; door opening 12 inches wide by 15 inches high, UL B Label fire rating, bottom-hinged, manual-opening, self-closing.
  106.             c.    Horizontal Discharge Door:  Fabricated of galvanized steel sheet conforming to ASTM A 653/A 653M, minimum G90/Z275 coating, minimum 12 gage sheet thickness, with 1-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inches galvanized steel angle reinforcement; spring-loaded hinge; UL-approved 165 degrees F fusible link hold-open device.
  107.             d.    Package Slow-Down:  Neoprene, 1 inch thick; attached to mail-container side of horizontal discharge door.
  108.             e.    Sprinkler Head:  Brass I.P.S. sprinkler head with 1/2 inch diameter pipe connection, automatically activated at 165 degrees F; located above top intake unit and at intake units at alternating floors below.

  110.     B.    Chute Supports:  Fabricated of 1-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inches steel angle conforming to ASTM A 36/A 36M, with one coat factory-applied primer.

  114. 2.3    FABRICATION
  115.  
  116.     A.    Mail and Package Chute:
  117.         1.    Factory-assemble to maximum extent possible, after considering shipping and installation limitations.
  118.         2.    Weld or lock-seam joints not required to be open for shipping or assembling chute sections in field.
  119.         3.    Fabricate chute sections to flash into section below to form smooth intersections; projecting bolts, clips, or other items not permitted.
  120.         4.    Form throat in chute wall for each indicated opening intake door.
  121.         5.    Fabricate and position support frames for correct intake levels, in accordance with approved shop drawings; provide expansion joint between successive support frames.

  123.     B.    Intake doors:  Bolt in place on throats formed in chute.

  128. 3.1    EXAMINATION
  129.  
  130.     A.    Verification of Conditions:
  131.         1.    Openings in horizontal slabs are correctly located, aligned and sized for mail chutes.
  132.         2.    Fire protection piping is correctly located and sized for connection to sprinkler heads mounted in mail chutes.
  133.  
  134.     B.    Installer's Examination:
  135.         1.    Have installer of this section examine conditions under which construction activities of this section are to be performed, then submit written notification if such conditions are unacceptable.
  136.         2.    Transmit two copies of installer's report to Architect within 24 hours of receipt.
  137.         3.    Beginning construction activities of this section before unacceptable conditions have been corrected is prohibited.
  138.         4.    Beginning construction activities of this section indicates installer's acceptance of conditions.

  140. 3.2    INSTALLATION

  143.     A.    Forming of slab openings is specified in Section 03300.
